Earlier this week, Apple began rolling out its new app analytics service in beta. Soon, developers will no longer need to use third party services like App Annie. If you’d like to be a part of the beta, sign on iTunes Connect here. For more information on the news, see this article on PocketGamer here.

The Future of Android Games

By 2018, Android games are expected to make more money than iOS, thanks to the growth of games in China. Digi-Capital predicts that $45 billion will be spent on mobile games - with more than 15% of it coming from China. Take a look at VentureBeat’s article about the report here for more insight.

F2P Metrics Developers Should be Tracking

There are most likely hundreds or thousands of player behaviors and actions you can track in your video game, and it can be difficult to determine which ones are most important. Develop Online recently wrote an article highlighting the top five metrics you should be measuring:

  • First Time User Experience (FTUE)

  • Mission/Level Completed

  • Virtual Currency Transactions

  • Achievements Completed and Viewed

  • Linking to Social Networks and Sharing Invites

To learn about each of these behaviors and actions, take a look at the in-depth article here.

Why Ad Monetization Placement is Important

The type of ads you use in your F2P game can have a huge impact on the player experience, and ultimately your revenue. Bryan Stealey, a game developer known for Mad Skills Motocross 2, learned this the hard way by starting out with interstitial ads. As a result, the game served less than one ad per DAU, and negatively affected the UX.

Over time, he learned how to properly implement ads in the game - leading it to #2 in the App Store in 2014. To learn about ad monetization placement, you can read the article on Gamasutra here.
