While story, graphics and gameplay are all necessary components to the success of a video game, audio is just as important, giving the user a fully immersive experience.

Whether you’re working on an indie or AAA title, there’s an overwhelming amount of audio development options to choose from. To help you decide, Develop-Online has recently put together a list of the top 9 tools you should consider when working on the audio portion of your video game.

You can take a look at the article here, which offers solutions such as FMOD, Wwise and AstoundSound.

Video Game Genre Preferences

According to the Electronic Software Association, 48% of women play video games around the world.

Even more surprising is the fact that women over the age of 18 represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (36%) than boys age 18 or younger (17%).

But what is it that motivates the female gender to play games, how long do they usually play for and what’s the most popular genre among women? A few recent studies by New Media & Society, Communication Research Reports and the International Communication Association have surfaced to help answer these questions.

Wai Yen Tang summarized the studies for Gamasutra - you can read the full article here for more insight.

The Future of VR

Virtual Reality has become one of the most popular technology topics over the last few years, thanks to companies like Sony and Oculus VR. With Facebook’s $2B Oculus VR acquisition earlier this year in March, investors and a variety of industries have started to show even more interest in the technology.

GamesIndustry.Biz recently interviewed Patrick O'Luanaigh, CEO of video game studio  nDreams, to see how the games industry is integrating the technology and where he thinks the future for VR lies. Take a look at the article here. Social Value White Paper Ninja Matrics
